(September 23, 2017) — An already stacked De Leon club with so much returning from a state quarterfinal team already figured to spend 2017 and 2018 among the best 2A Division II teams in the region, if not the state.

Then Anthony Rangel moved to Bearcat Country from Sanford-Fitch, and while locals rumored he would be a good addition, they probably didn’t realize he was this good.

It’s yet another way De Leon has to beat opponents now, and there is a long list of ways they can do tha, beginning with all that versatile junior quarterback and free safety Kevin Yeager can do.

Yeger already wasn’t alone, and now the personnel around himis truly stacked. Rangel rushed for 169 yards on 14 carries and scored 3 TDs in a 37-0 blanking of Santo Friday night, the third shutout in four games by the Bearcats.

De Leon was in business from the stat thanks to the performance of Rangel opening the airwaves for Yeager to go 18-33 for 222 yards and a couple more scores. Chris Cox led the talented bevy of pass catchers with six receptions. The Bearcats mixed in 217 total rushing yards for a well-balanced offensive effort.

De Leon has also defeated Baird, 50-0, Winters, 53-0 and Cross Plains 42-19. Add Friday’s rout and that’s a combined 182-19 for an average margin of 40.8.

It all becomes exponentially difficult next week, when De Leon meets traditional power house Crawford, a 2016 state finalist, to begin district play next Friday. Kickoff in Crawford is set for 7:30 p.m and the winner will be the favorite in a loaded 10-2A Division I that also includes Goldhtwaite and Hico.
