STEPHENVILLE (October 2, 2017) – Tarleton punter Ron Reid was named the Lone Star Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance in a win over UT Permian Basin on Saturday.

Reid continued to dominate the field position game for Tarleton. His career-long punt in the third quarter was a turning point in the game as he went out to punt with the ball on Tarleton’s own 26-yard line. The junior punter booted a career-long 72-yard punt that was downed on the UTPB two-yard line, forcing the Falcons to drive the length of the field. The Falcons’ drive stalled out and UTPB was forced to punt out of its own end zone, giving the Texan offense the ball at the UTPB 31-yard line. Tarleton’s offense went to work after that, going 31 yards in four plays for a touchdown to extend its lead to 18-3.

The Lone Star Conference punting leader booted seven punts for 322 yards for an average of 46.0 yards per punt, highlighted by the first 70-yard punt at Tarleton since 2013.

It’s the second career weekly award for Reid and the first LSC weekly award for the senior from Burleson. Reid was named the D2Football National Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 21.

The Flash Today will have feature on Reid as part of this week’s upcoming football preview package.
