Meet the SHS Homecoming Court nominees

Rachel Tuggle

STEPHENVILLE (October 5, 2017) – Ten nominees will be honored Friday at the Stephenville High School homecoming pep rally and football game. Check out their statements below on who they are and what they do at SHS.

Blake Aragon is a member of the varsity football, basketball and track teams.  As a captain of the football team, he participates in reading hour at the local elementary school.  Blake is also a member of Hillcrest Church of Christ.  He is a 2-year varsity football letterman and was also named the 2017 basketball Newcomer of the Year.  Blake was also the 2017 Gold Medalist in the 4A State High-Jump and Field MVP. Blake plans to attend college and play football while pursuing a degree in business.

Calvin Jones is a part of NHS, UIL Math and the Yellow Jacket Band and Jazz Band.  His greatest achievements are making the Area Jazz Band Bass Trombone spot, making a 1 at state with his Trombone Trio and, the one he is most proud of, being a drum major of the Yellow Jacket Band.  Calvin hopes to go to UNT and be a music major with the hopes of performing music or making music for video games.

Cole Pettit is actively involved in many sports at SHS including football, basketball, baseball and track.  He is also a member of the National Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society and Student Council.  Cole has been named to the second team all-district in basketball, was the 2017 Yellow Jacket defensive player of the year in basketball and has received Academic All-District in all sports.  Cole plans to attend Texas A&M University.

Throughout Aaron Stufflebean’s time at Stephenville High School, he has been heavily involved in multiple things.  His junior year he was the Vice President of HOSA, and his this year is the Science Club Treasurer.  In 2016, he became an official Leadership Ambassador and received the Award of Excellence from The National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists in Boston, Massachusetts. Aaron has taken home two first place medals in Tennis with his partner Lucy Tackett. Aaron’s future plans are to attend Texas Christian University and study pre-med in hopes of becoming a cardiothoracic surgeon.

Cristobal Tinajero has played the flute in the Yellow Jacket Marching Band for four years. He has also participated in FCCLA since his sophomore year and competed in FCCLA STARR events. He has also been a part of the Stephenville High School Winterguard Crew since his freshman year.  Some of his proudest achievements include accompanying the band to Area Finals his freshman year, qualifying for state FCCLA STARR events for two consecutive years and, just last year, he was chosen as Crew Chief for the award-winning Stephenville High School Winterguard.  In the future, he plans to attend Baylor University to major in pharmacology so that he can one day become a pharmacologist.

Ciarra Akins is a very active member of the Yellow Jacket Marching Band and the Indoor Drumline.  She is the drum captain of the Yellow Jacket percussion section and the bass drum section leader.  Ciarra is also a member of the percussion state ensemble, who has received the highest ranking at competition every year.  After graduation, Ciarra plans to attend Midwestern State University, where she has already been accepted and will be majoring in business management.

Maddi Grimes is a four year member of Student Council where she served as class officer for 3 years.  She is a member and officer of the National Honor Society and a member of the National Spanish Honor Society.  She’s been active in Freshman, JV and Varsity Cheerleading and is a 4 year member of FFA.  She was a regional qualifier and academic all district in Varsity golf in 2016 and 2017.  Maddi was voted freshman class favorite, sophomore class favorite runner up and junior class favorite.  She currently serves as the Stephenville Lions Club Queen.  Maddi has been accepted to Texas Tech University where she plans to pursue a degree as a nurse anesthetist and would like to continue her volunteer work with special needs children.

Kristen Pettit has been involved in several sports throughout her high school career, including volleyball, basketball, track, softball and cheer.  She is also an active member in Student Council.  Kristen has received several awards, including the United Cheer Association “Pin it Forward” leadership award, academic all-district in all sports and was recognized as the Optimist Club student of the month in May of 2017.  After graduation, Kristen plans to attend Oklahoma State University.

Rebecca Tuggle is the head captain of the SHS Stingerettes.  She participates in UIL Journalism events and is a youth leader at First Baptist Church of Stephenville. Rebecca is a member of National Honor Society and is ranked in the top ten percent of her class.  She has qualified for state competition in UIL editorial writing for the last two years, placing 5th at last year’s state competition.  After graduation, Rebecca plans on going to Tarleton State University to pursue a degree in elementary education.

Payton Wall is a member of the varsity basketball and track teams, as well as a representative for Student Council.  She is also an active member of the First Baptist Church of Stephenville.  Payton is ranked 3rd in the class of 2018 and is a member of the National Honors Society and Spanish Honors Society.  She has also received first team All-District Basketball recognition for the 2016 & 2017 seasons.  After graduation, Payton plans on running track in college while pursuing a degree in the medical profession.
