STEPHENVILLE (October 4, 2017) — The Tarleton State University Department of Fine Arts presents renowned tenor Dr. Christopher MacRae in a free guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Theater.
Praised for his musicality and dramatic portrayals as well as a beautiful and sonorous tenor voice, MacRae has appeared across Canada and the United States in a variety of musical roles.
“Dr. MacRae is going to give a fantastic recital,” said Dr. Heather Hawk, associate professor of vocal performance at Tarleton. “He is a world-class tenor, and we are so privileged to have him on campus. I’ve had the pleasure of hearing him several times, and I’m excited for my students to get to do so.”
His appearance at Tarleton will feature works by Richard Strauss, George Frederic Handel, Paolo Tosti and Umberto Giordano.
MacRae made his professional debut with Calgary Opera as Dr. Blind in Die Fledermaus and has since appeared onstage with Opera on the Avalon, Toronto Summer Music Festival, The Banff Centre, Opera McGill, Boston University, University of North Texas Opera and University of Arkansas Opera Theater.
He has performed frequently as a concert soloist and appeared with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, Calgary Civic Symphony, Red Deer Symphony Orchestra, Boston University Symphony Orchestra, University of North Texas Early Music Consort, Festival Chorus, Bow Valley Chorus, Boston’s Calliope, Okanagan Symphony, Paul Madore Chorale and Masterworks Chorale.
A member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, MacRae has presented lecture recitals at the Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences Congress in Calgary, the International Symposium on Singing and Song in St. John’s Newfoundland, and the NATS Southern Region Conference.
