Ranger College hosting fright film festival

STEPHENVILLE – The Ranger College Erath County Campus will be hosting its third annual Stephenville Frights horror film festival. The event will take place Oct. 14th.

This years’ theme is Nature Horror.

The tripleheader starts at 2 p.m. with the 1954 movie The Naked Jungle. In this chilling jungle adventure, the owner of an Amazon plantation does all he can to stamp out a rapacious nest of deadly army ants, poisonous insects that eat and destroy everything in their path. Starring Charlton Heston.

Following at 4:30 p.m., Alfred Hitchcock’s classic film The Birds will hit the screen. A wealthy San Francisco socialite pursues a potential boyfriend to a small Northern California town that slowly takes a turn for the bizarre when birds of all kinds suddenly begin to attack people. Starring Tippi Hedren and Rod Taylor.

Closing out the festival will be a showing of the 2011 film The Grey. After their plane crashes in Alaska, six oil workers are led by a skilled huntsman to survival, but a pack of merciless wolves haunts their every step. Starring Liam Neeson.

Each film will be introduced by a lecture from a Ranger College professor who will explain the film’s history, artistic value and social and cultural significance. Following each screening, there will be a question and answer period.

Most importantly admission is free and there will be concessions on site for sale or feel free to bring your own snacks.

The Ranger College Campus is located at  1835 W Lingleville Rd, Stephenville.
