(October 16, 2017) — De Leon remains the only local UIL school to be state ranked by the Associated Press. The Bearcats of District 10-2A Division I, are No. 8 in the unified 2A poll, accumulating 83 points in from the 30 AP member media voting in the 2017 polls.
The Bearcats reached the Region I-2A Division I finals – the equivalent of the state quarterfinals – in 2016, and are off to their first 6-0 start since making it through the 2008 regular season unbeaten. That Bearcat team finished 10-1 with a loss in the opening round of the state playoffs.
The Bearcats were idle last week after earning wins of 38-18 over then-No. 9 Crawford and 27-14 over Hico, making De Leon the favorite to win the district title. The Bearcats visit Hamilton this Friday, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.
