STEPHENVILLE (October 16, 2017) — Tarleton State University’s Department of Fine Arts presents a guest recital by globally celebrated cellist Yuri Anshelevich in his first appearance at Tarleton.

The free, public recital takes place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, in the theater of the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center.

Accompanying Anshelevich is internationally acclaimed pianist Gabriel Sanchez.

“Yuri Anshelevich’s recital with Gabriel Sanchez promises to be an exciting journey through the baroque, classical and romantic styles,” said Dr. Teresa Davidian, professor of music. “They are magnificent musicians who play with experience, emotion and precision.”

Anshelevich made his recital debut at the age of 9. Five years later, he was accepted at the famed Moscow State Conservatory and won first prize in the cello division of the highly competitive all-Russian competition, leading to studies with world-famous cellist Mstislav Rostropovich.

Retired since 2015 as associate principal cello with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, where he performed for 38 years, he served on the faculty of Southern Methodist University and as artist-in-residence at the University of Dallas.

Sanchez, the 1997 top prize winner of the Casablanca International Piano Competition, has performed throughout the United States. He has played with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Irving Symphony Orchestra. Internationally acclaimed, he has appeared in London at the Royal Academy of Music, in Paris at the Salle Gaveau and the Palacio de Festivales in Santander, Spain.
