PLANO (October 16, 2017) – Tarleton won 11 of its 15 singles matches over the weekend and dominated doubles play with 10 wins in 11 matches for a dominant showing in its third tournament of the fall.

“I thought we had a very positive tournament with improvement,” said head coach Lance Drake. “It was a good tournament for us and we had some solid performances throughout.”

In singles, Alicia Barbaroux rolled through Flight 2 as she collected the flight’s championship with four singles victories including a 6-2, 6-2 win over Arkansas Tech’s Kami Ward in the title match. Tori Simmons and Neetika Sud went 3-1 in Flight 1 and Flight 3, respectively, and qualifying for their respective championship matches.

Sherine Salem went 1-2 in Flight 1 with a win over Ana-Cris Orozco from North Central Texas College.

“Alicia was solid all weekend,” said Drake. “Neetika has some good performances and is learning how to become a better collegiate tennis player. Tori played with good energy throughout the tournament and Sherine played through a couple of good battles.”

In doubles, Barbaroux and Simmons dropped an 8-9 (4) heartbreaker in their first match of the weekend to fall into the consolation bracket but rebounded with three straight wins including an 8-5 win over the team from New Mexico Military Institute to claim the Flight 1 Consolation Championship. Meanwhile, Shelby Fillingame went 3-0 in Flight 2 to earn the flight championship, defeating two teams from Arkansas Tech in the semifinals and finals.

“Alicia and Tori bounced back after dropping a tough one in their first match to come back and win the consolation,” said Drake. “Shelby and Sherine came out with a championship in their first time playing together. It was good to see Shelby moving around better as she tries to come back from an injury. Those two played their best match in the championship.”
