STEPHENVILLE (October 20, 2017) — There was a lot more than just a volleyball match going on at Gandy Gym, Friday afternoon, when the Honeybees praised their four senior players and senior manager along with their families, raised funds for Gilbert Intermediate teacher Karen Wilson, who is battling cancer and recognized the up and comers of the program, the teams from Henderson Junior High.
The seniors include libero Hailey Martin, defensive specialists Maren Isham and Kristen Pettit and outside hitter Ashton Garner. The manager is Jordan Bailey.
No. 1 Glen Rose dominated the match, 25-21, 25-13, 25-17, guaranteeing a second straight outright District 8-4A championship for the Lady Tigers and relegating Stephenville to play it out with Waxahachie Life for the No. 3 and 4 spots. Stephenville holds the head’s up advantage, having won in five sets at home in the first loop through 8-4A. They meet in each team’s final regular season match at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Waxahachie, where a Life win would leave them tied for third. A Honeybee victory would leave the seeding as it currently stands with Stephenville the No. 3 finisher.
Midlothian Heritage has secured its spot as 8-4A runner-up.
