STEPHENVILLE (October 26, 2017) — The best way to get to this Friday’s L.V. Risinger Memorial Bonfire is to catch a free shuttle from Tarleton State University’s Stephenville campus to the Agricultural Center (College Farm) on County Road 518.

Avoid traffic bottlenecks. Eliminate parking hassles. Be one of the first 300 to board and get tickets for free food.

Shuttle service begins at 5:30 p.m., with pickup at parking lots at Legacy, Bender and Ferguson halls, the Tarleton Horticulture Center, and The Grove.

Students taking the shuttle from Legacy Hall, Mustang Ranch or The Grove should park in their residential lots. Other students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members can park for the evening at the Horticulture Center or in Lot P10 between Bender and Ferguson halls.

No backpacks, coolers or duffle bags. Alcohol is forbidden.

Jason Boland and Prophets & Outlaws are scheduled to perform at the bonfire.

Those driving to this year’s event are encouraged to pay close attention to directions of law enforcement officers and their assistants, wearing traffic vests. Gates to parking at College Farm close at 8 p.m. or whenever the lot is full.

Traffic will be controlled as a one-way entry onto County Road 518 (College Farm Road) leading to the bonfire. The best route is eastbound on FM 8 (Lingleville Highway) toward U.S. Hwy. 281. Motorists will be directed to turn north (left) onto College Farm Road into the College Farm property.

Tarleton State University’s annual L.V. Risinger Bonfire lighting will take place Friday, Oct. 27, at the Agricultural Center located on College Farm Road (County Road 518) with shuttle service beginning at 5:30 p.m.

Upon arrival, follow directions of parking assistants and watch for pedestrians, law enforcement officers and possible holes and trenches.

Parking will be available in various lots and gravel areas at the College Farm, but beware that vehicles could be blocked until others leave.

No parking is allowed on the sides of College Farm Road. Vehicles left in an area that blocks traffic along the road, which serves as the main entrance into the College Farm, will be subject to towing.

To leave the bonfire, exit the area northbound on College Farm Road and follow the gravel county road to the Southwest Regional Dairy Center at the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 281. Turn southbound (right) to travel back into Stephenville.

Motorists must continue straight on U.S. Hwy. 281 until reaching East Washington Street (Bus. 377), where they’ll turn west (right) toward the town square if they want to return to campus.

The bonfire tradition at Tarleton dates to the 1920s and features the introduction of the Homecoming court. The event, always the Friday before Saturday’s annual Homecoming football game, is named for Tarleton alum L.V. Risinger, acclaimed defender of the bonfire in the air raid of 1939.
