GAME OF THE WEEK:
HICO TIGERS (5-2, 1-1) AT SAN SABA ARMADILLOS (3-4, 0-3)
Hico is heading to the playoffs with a win tonight. They will have the head-to-head victories over San Saba, Hamilton and Valley Mills to get in and can focus jus on seeding against Goldthwaite and Crawford.
But tonight isn’t going to be your typical Hico-San Saba game from recent seasons. The Armadillos haven’t exactly blown anyone away with their improvements, but they have improved, actually beating Valley Mills in similar fashion as Hico and trumping Winters by almost the same margin as De Leon. Most impressive is the ‘Dillos 33-32 win over Cross Plains. I remember De Leon head coach David Yeager telling me he was pretty impressed with the Cross Plains offense, so this tells me San Saba can put up some numbers.
Hico should win, and I believe the Tigers will do so. However, if they get bitten by the fumble bug, which has happened a couple times this year, they could be in for a dog fight.
BIG SPRING (0-7, 0-2) at Stephenville (5-2, 1-0)
Yawn. Snyder may be interesting for a little while next week, but for the Yellow Jackets, the next big game is the District 3-4A-Division I championship showdown with Abilene Wylie the final week of the regular season.
Tolar (4-3, 1-1) at Dublin (2-5, 0-2)
Tolar is going to get in the playoffs. Is Dublin? If the Lions don’t win tonight, it will all comedown to next week’s battle with Coleman for the fourth spot from District 4-3A Division II.
Lingleville at Gordon
This is a tough district. The Cardinals have shown life this season, but a win at Gordon will be a tall order. If they soar high, though, you can start making playoff plans for Lingleville.
Stephenville FAITH vs. Lubbock Titans
I don’t know much about this Lubbock team, but I will be absolutely stunned if FAITH loses a game before the TAIAO Division I final, and a little surprised even if they fall there.
