Record win streak reaches 15 as TexAnns overpower UTPB

(October 28, 2017) — Tarleton State had more than twice as any kills, double the blocks and almost two times the assists as UT-Permian Basin when the No. 11 TexAnns (22-4, 14-1) took care of business in a 25-21, 25-10, 25-16 rout of their lacking opponent to begin a two-match weekend road swing.

West Texas A&M is not the power it was a few years ago but will be much more formidable an opponent than UTPB. The TexAnns face WTAMU at 2 p.m. today in Canyon, where they will try to push their school-record win streak to 16.

Tarleton is sitting safely three matches ahead of Texas A&M-Commerce with five matches remaining, The earliest Tarleton could secure the outright title is next Friday, Nov. 3, at Midwestern State. Texas A&M-Kingsville is another game behind TAMUC, while West Texas A&M (17-10, 9-6) enters today’s match five back.

The seemingly player of every week in the Lone Star Conference, three-time All-American Hailey Roberts, racked up 15 kills and 10 digs for a double-double while also blocking a pair of UTPB’s hitting efforts. She was joined in double digits in ills by Adriana Darthuy with 10 along with two blocks and two aces. Freshman Amber Strange continues to shine in the middle, making four blocks while killing two balls and acing a pair of serves.

Jordyn Keamo stacked five kills, seven digs and two blocks on top of what has became an ordinary 30 assists in the quick match.

The TexAnns hit .287 with 43 kills and UTPB just .0651 with 21 kills. Tarleton aced seven serves and blocked shots eight times. UTPB aced four and blocked four.
