MEET DAY: Tarleton teams running at regionals

AT A GLANCE:
Tarleton cross country is heading to Canyon to compete in the South Central Region Championship hosted by West Texas A&M at The Range on Saturday, November 4.THE MEET:
The women will run a 6,000-meter course at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday while the men will run a 10,000-meter course at 10:45 a.m. The South Central region is made up of teams from the Lone Star Conference, Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference and Heartland Conference. The top five teams advance to the NCAA national championship meet and the top three individuals from non-qualifying teams and any top five individual advances as well. The top 25 individuals earn USTFCCCA all-region honors.

LAST TIME OUT:
Tarleton competed in the LSC Championships hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville on Oct. 21 with the TexAnns winning the second LSC Title in program history and the Texans finishing second.Esmeralda Fuentes was the top runner for the women with a second-place finish in the 6,000-meter course in 22:06.73. Michael Simcho also saw a second-place finish for the men with a time of 26.07.47 in the 8,000-meter course.

REGIONAL RANKINGS:
Tarleton women’s cross country team has moved up two spots to No. 8 in the latest regional poll for the South Central Region released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The TexAnns are one of two LSC teams in the regional rankings with West Texas A&M coming in ninth.

WEATHER:
The projected forecast for the meet in Canyon is a high of 57 degrees during the women’s race and 68 degrees for the men’s race with a 15 mph wind, according the weather.com.

UP NEXT:
If Tarleton or any individual (s) qualify for the national championship, it will take place on Nov. 18 in Evansville, Indiana.
