TexAnns set for first shot at outright LSC title

(November 4, 2017) — No. 14 Tarleton State (23-5, 15-2) secured at least a share of the Lone Star Conference volleyball championship with a four set win over Midwestern State (13-14, 6-11) paired with a Texas A&M-Commerce loss at Western New Mexico, both on Friday.

The TexAnns are now up three matches with three remaining and will clinch the title outright with their next win or the next loss by TAMUC loss. Their first shot at their second outright crown in three years – also their second ever – comes when they visit Cameron today in Lawton, Oklahoma and TAMUC visits Eastern New Mexico. First serve in both matches is set for 2 p.m.

The TexAnns beat Midwestern 25-13, 25-21, 24-26, 25-14 with hailey Roberts posting a strong double-double with 17 kills, 19 digs, 2 blocks and 2 assists. Jordyn Keamo also doubled-up, amassing 43 assists and digging 11 balls  while also acing three serves and recording four blocks.

Adriana Darthuy landed 11 kills and Hannah McManus 10 to go with five blocks. The trio of them and Roberts combined for 38 kills, the same as the entire Midwestern side. Tarleton didn’t exactly light it up with a .190 hitting percentage, but had 7 kills and committed six less errors on the attack than the Mustangs, who hit just .061.

Tarleton had 51 assists and 7 blocks to 35 and 3, respectively, by the Mustangs.

Rockelle Gholson had a 14-kill, 12-dig double-double to lead MSU. Ellie Gunderson made 24 assists and Aerielle Edwards collected 25 digs.
