Jackets sting Gatesville, 62-38

(November 14, 2017) — Skylar Stilwell and Mason Holstein combined to score 33 points in 35 minutes as Stephenville hit 59 percent from the floor in a 62-38 road win over Gatesville Tuesday.

Stilwell scored 19 points in 18 minutes impressive minutes during which he also collected seven rebounds and two steals. Holstein scored 14 in 17 minutes and may have gone for a triple double if his services would have been required longer. The senior guard tallied six steals, five assists and five rebounds.

The Yellow Jackets (2-0) were dominant again in the second quarter, using an 18-7 margin to lead 31-16 at half. The advantage grew to 49-28 by the end of the third.

The Jackets held a significant rebound margin for the second straight outing to begin the season. This time it was a 35-16 margin after out-boarding De Leon 33-19 in the season opener Saturday.

Stephenville beat Gatesville in every facet of the game – 16 assists to 6, 13 steals to 3, 12-0 in second-chance points and 15-4 in points of turnovers.

Braden Hayes scored 12 points and five boards for Stephenville while Quade Griffin netted 8. Mason Castlebery, Chase Griffin and Noah Kurceba ache added 3.
