(November 16, 2017) — If anyone doesn’t know the meaning of the phrase “going out with a bang,” have them look at the scoring line produced by senior quarterback Josh Hanes in his final game as Dublin Lion. That should explain the phrase clearly.

Hanes was one of two Lions to achieve the scoring trifecta with touchdowns rushing, passing and receiving. He crossed the goal line four times himself – three rushing and once receiving – and added four touchdowns passing. He also had a hand in Jacob Stanley achieving the trifecta, and both feats were accomplished by halftime.

If you haven’t figured it out, Dublin posted some ridiculous numbers in the 73-40 win over Bangs, including the most points scored by Lions team since 1943 and second-most all-time. The last time Dublin scored 70 was in 1995 when the Lions hung 72 on Ranger.

Hanes finished the season as a 59.3 percent passer for 1,947 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing 113 times for 557 yards and 11 scores, and of course, had his lone receiving TD last week. He finished second among all area 11-man players in total touchdowns rushing, receiving and passing with 32. De Leon quarterback Kevin Yeager passed for 32 and rushed for 5, a total of 37 in the regular season. He is adding more scores in the playoffs.

Hanes is aptly the final DQ Player of the Week the regular season. An honoree will continue to be named each week as long as a local team is alive in the state playoffs. DON’T FORGET TO PRINT OFF AND USE THE BUY ONE, GET ONE MINI-BLIZZARD COUPON!
