ALEDO (November 28, 2017) — It took five games for Stephenville to suffer a loss and 5A Aledo needed a double-double from sophomore rising star Taylor Morgan to hand the setback to the 4A No. 7 Honeybees.

With 18 points and 10 rebounds Tuesday evening, Morgan sparked Aledo to a 50-39 home win over Stephenville, the second highest ranked team in Region I of Conference 4A according to the latest poll from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches.

The Lady Cats didn’t have any sudden bursts but key to beating Stephenville is not having any long droughts, as that usually is indicative of succumbing to full-court pressure defense and compounding problems by allowing the Bees easy buckets off takeaways.

But here would be no drought or deficit faced by the Lady Cats, the first Stephenville opponent to reach 50 points as a product of being the first to score in double figures in all four quarters.

Stephenville head coach Alan Thorpe was unable to inch closer to career win 500, most of those coming in his two stints leading the Honeybees. His team plans to maneuver him on the precipice of that milestone with at least three tournament games in Granbury Thursday through Saturday.

A poor first half on the offensive end is what most hurt the Bees, who scored just eight points in each of the first two quarters and were outscored 16-8 in the second to trail 26-16 at intermission.

Junior Jayci Morton scored 13 to lead Stephenville, but Payton Wall was on the only other Honeybee to reach six points against the strong defense of Aledo. Morgan was the only Lady Cat in double figures, while Sarah Hauessler was close with nine. Elizabeth Allanach and Janessa Payne each added six.

Complete scoring is below.
