(December 1, 2017) – Rayce Jackson may be on his way to scoring more points in a week than any Dubliin player in recent memory.

Of course, 33 points per game through Tuesday and Thursday contests won’t be an easy average to maintain as the Dublin Athletic Booster Club Tournament.

Jackson scored 37 points and Dublin sprinted to triple digits in a 101-79 win over a pesky Priddy team that was led by junior Chandler Hurst with 32 points and showed it didn’t mind getting up and down the court with the “Runnin’ Lions.”

For a little while, at least.

Dublin led 28-19 after the first quarter and was never in danger, but Priddy did score 29 points and the Lion 28 in the third quarter. Still, while seemingly no margin is safe with such a turbulent style, Dublin appeared safe and indeed was following a 25-12 third quarter that made it 81-60.

Jackson hit six 3-pointers and had 27 points by halftime, three of the triples coming in each period. Then, in the most important stretch, the Lions showed the ability to distance themselves from an opponent even when Jackson isn’t doing the scoring, as he netted just two in the third before coming back with eight in the fourth.

Angel Ramirez added 13 points, Jeremiah Martinez 12 and Josh Hanes 11. Several of them worked to fill out the stat sheet, none more than Jackson with nine boards, six assists and four steals. Hanes grabbed six boards, dealt four assists and claimed four steals, Ramirez had three assists and two steals and Martinez notched three assists.

The big men took care of the backboards as Jakob Seals collected 15 rebounds and Blake Porter had 11. Tim Teten just missed double figures with nine points and matched Jackson for the lead in assists with six, while matching Jackson and Hanes atop the steals count with four.

The Lions even amassed eight blocked shots, two each by Hanes and, you guessed it, Jackson.

Dublin has a bevy of stat earners and doesn’t need Jackson to do it all.

But the Lions are at their best when their senior leader is doing an awful lot.

The Lion were back on the court at 11 a.m. Friday. A win there moves them to an 8 p.m. contest where they would play for a spot in the championship at 5 p.m. Friday. A loss in the 11 a.m. game means turning around and playing again Friday at 3:30 p.m.
