STEPHENVILLE (December 1, 2017) — Almost 100 donors kicked off the holiday season Tuesday with a gift to support Tarleton State University students. All total, donors gave $26,295 to colleges, scholarships and student programs and activities.

This was the first year for the university to participate in the annual global celebration known as Giving Tuesday, observed just after Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Since its beginning in 2012, Giving Tuesday has grown significantly, with donors throughout the world participating.

“We are grateful for the generosity of the caring people who chose to begin their holiday season with donations to Tarleton,” said Janice Horak, assistant vice president for development. “Tarleton Texans from across the nation reached deep to provide funds for scholarships, study abroad opportunities, innovative programs and student activities. These donations will have an immediate impact on our students.”

Of the 96 donations, almost half came from Tarleton faculty and staff, 40 percent from alumni, and the other 14 percent from students, their family members and friends of the university.

The College of Liberal & Fine Arts received $10,525 of Giving Tuesday donations, followed by the College of Science & Technology with $2,500, and the Honors College with $2,125. For a complete breakdown of donation dollars, go to www.tarleton.edu/givingday.
