(December 5, 2017) — The epicenter of small-school girls basketball in Texas last weekend may very well have been Lipan.

And the best team there was Hico.

Then-No. 13 Hico Lady Tigers turned some heads by dominating then-No. 5 Tenaha 42-27 to win the championship in a tournament hosted by recent state champion Lipan.

The Lady Tigers bumped up four spots to No. 9 while Tenaha justifiably fell behind them to No. 10, according to the new rankings released this week at tabchoops.org. Hico will try to add another quality win in a neutral-court battle with the tam that took their old spot in the Texas Association of Basketball coaches 2A girls rankings.

No. 9 Hico (13-1) and No. 13 Wellington (9-2) are meeting Tuesday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on the campus of Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.

Marissa Warren was named MVP of the tournament and was joined on the all-tourney team by Lauryl Stegall and Shelby Polk. They combined for all but two Hico points in the championship thumping of Tenaha. Warren poured in 20 including 14 after halftime, Stegall netted 12 and Polk added eight.

After the trip north Tuesday, the Lady Tigers will get ready for another tall task. A 4A playoff regular known for its full court press is visiting Hico on Friday for a matinee battle beginning at 4 p.m.
