STEPHENVILLE (December 11, 2017) – Josh Hawley was named the Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his career, the league announced on Monday.

Hawley was the defensive force at the rim that helped Tarleton win a pair of conference games over the week. Hawley nearly averaged a double-double with 11.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while the LSC leader in blocks also averaged 3.5 blocks and 1.5 steals. The sophomore recorded his third double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 26-point rout over Western New Mexico. Hawley also blocked three shots and had two steals while limiting the Mustangs to 35 percent shooting and 19 percent on three-pointers.

Hawley followed with seven points and eight rebounds against Eastern New Mexico, but his biggest presence was at the rim, where he tied a career high with four blocks. Hawley’s goal protection helped the Texans erase a 10-point second-half deficit to defeat ENMU 68-67. Hawley and the Texans held teams to 63 points on 39 percent shooting and 36 percent behind the arc for the week.

Hawley and the Texans will take on No. 19 Western Oregon on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in Wisdom Gym.
