(December 16, 2017) — In case you have missed the last year and then some, Huckabay is on a roll in girls basketball.

Now that roll has carried over into a new district campaign, with the No. 6 Lady Indians (14-3, 2-0) defeating a good Gorman club 61-41 on Tuesday then turning back Strawn 65-31 on Friday.

Huckabay built a 38-24 halftime lead over Gorman, then cruised to a 23-17 margin to put away possibly its biggest district challenger after the break. Destiny Cook scored almost half the team’s scoring following intermission, when she netted 11 of her game-high 15. Trinity Meador scored six of her 10 in the second half. Kailin Dowell and Emmy Rodriguez, on the other hand, did their damage before the break. Rodriguez hit two first-quarter 3-balls on her way to 10 points by halftime and 11 overall. Dowell had eight at intermission and finished with 10.

Additionally, all of the combined nine points by Ciara Phillips, with 5, and Presli Bray, 4, came in the first quarter. Brenna Yarbrough and Tiffany Lopez scored three apiece.

Dowell stretched her 22 points pretty evenly throughout the evening in the rout of Strawn, scoring six and four in the opening quarters and finishing with four then 10. Bray scored  8, Meador 8, Rodriguez 7, Philips 6, Cook 5, Lopez 3 and Brenna Yarbrough 2.
