(December 16, 2017) — Rayce Jackson has no qualms with backing off the scorer’s role and becoming more of a facilitator, rebounder, whatever he can to help Dublin win on nights his shot isn’t gong down.

Going 1-for-7 from 3 at Eastland Tuesday led to just that, and when Jackson is flying around doing things without the ball,  or with him passing it, they are just as dangerous, it seems, as when the senior who leads the area in scoring is popping the net with sweet jumpers.

Eastlnd didn’t Jackson beat them, so instead he earned a triple-double helping everyone else beat the Mavericks. Jackson finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in the 80-45 Dublin victory that was never in doubt. A quadruple-double is something that isn’t unrealistic for Jackson against the right opponent, as he also snared six steals.

Jeremiah Martinez went 7-14 from the arc for 21 points and Jakob Seals scored a varsity career high 20 while grabbing eight rebounds for the Lions. who backed off after leading 25-8 through one quarter, and still stretched the lead to 39-16 at halftime. Seals very nearly had a perfect shooting performance, going 9-10 inside and making both his foul shots.

Blake Porter collected eight points and 10 boards while Josh Hanes finished with five points and nine assists.

Conference 1A state champ and No. 1 ranked Lipan visited Dublin and was still too much for the Lions on Friday, but it wasn’t a margin like last season’s meeting. The Lions did trail by 19 entering the fourth quarter, made it a respectable in a 78-70 loss to the talent-laden Indians who most everyone picks to repeat as state champs.

Dublin hosts De Leon on Tuesday. Tipoff is expected about 5 p.m. following sub-varsity contests at 3 and 4 p.m.
