STEPHENVILLE (December 29, 2017)– To kick off the new year, the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council will host a travel-themed photography exhibit by Sara Gillespie. Gillespie, a 2015 graduate of Stephenville High School, will have her exhibit on display at the CTFAC from Jan. 9 through Feb. 28.

“It’s mostly from Colorado just out hiking and stuff,” Gillespie said. “Then, some of it is from New York when I went last year. There are a few from Grand Cayman two years ago.”

Gillespie took these photos on her cell phone camera and submitted them to CTFAC executive director, Julie Smith, in hopes of putting a few on display. Instead, Smith wanted to create a solo exhibit for Gillespie.

“I’m excited and nervous,” Gillespie said. “I’ve never done this before.”

For as long as she can remember Gillespie has enjoyed photography. She began taking art classes at Gilbert Intermediate and continued into high school. Gillespie also enjoys other art forms such as painting and sketching.

“I’ve always liked taking photos,” Gillespie said. “Photography captures the moment instead of just your interpretation of the moment.”

Today Gillespie attends Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas and is majoring in fashion merchandising and minoring in marketing. She works as one of the student assistants for the women’s basketball team. This summer Gillespie will potentially follow her love of travel to Florence, Italy on a study abroad trip.

The reception for Gillespie’s exhibit will be on Jan. 11 from 5 to 7 p.m.

“While in high school, Sara was a regular volunteer at CTFAC for receptions and art camps,” Smith said in an email interview. “She’s such a talented young lady and was always a joy to be around. I am thrilled to feature her work and excited to see what she does next!”
