Dublin School Board kicks off year with student awards, announcing election

DUBLIN (January 17, 2018)– On Monday night, the Dublin ISD school board held a record short meeting of only 35 minutes. They honored January’s students of the month, announced the election for school board members to be on May 5 and voted to continue the employment of several DISD faculty and staff members.

On the ballot this year are Charlie Bradberry, Raymond Salinas and Jeff Weaver. Dublin ISD superintendent Dr. Rodney Schneider said that all planned on running for reelection.

The board voted to continue the employment of the assistant superintendent, special education director, all campus principals and assistant principals, the athletic director, counselors and business manager.

“They’re our team,” Schneider said.

The board also approved a budget amendment to pay for fiber optics and supplies for the arts and graphic arts programs.

Schneider also reported that the district is preparing to sell two lots on Camden Street.

A large group of students were honored at the board meeting as well. The Lion Leaders were Dylan Garcia and Katherine Williams for pre-K, Luis Mendoza and Selena Moreno for kindergarten, Luke Mendez and Brianna Osornio for first grade, Jayden Balvantin and Rosybel Calderon for second grade and Jayden Rojas and Jada Tamez for third grade.

Academic scholars of the month were Adolfo Daniel and Hailey Ortega. Athletic scholars were Rianna Turner, Tyler Harrell, Hailey Ortega and Nabor Calderon. Extracurricular scholars were Kevin Perez and Tristan Whisenant.

The next board meeting will be on Feb. 19 at 6 p.m.
