(January 18, 2018) — Deshawn Riddick was on fire, and the 29-game home win streak held by No. 7 West Texas A&M has been put on ice.

Riddick made 6 of 8 from downtown and scored 23 points to pace five Tarleton State players in double figures in a 82-74 upset of the Buffaloes, who last lost in the First United Bank Center in Canyon on January 6, 2016 to Midwestern State. Tarleton last won there on February 8, 2015.

There were eight lead changes, the last coming when Riddick buried two 3-pointers and dealt an assist over three possessions to turn a one-point deficit into 62-57 Tarleton lead with 5:55 remaining. He made it 57-55 on an assist from Sam Marshall before a David Chavlovich layup evened it up for West Texas A&M. Then Riddick struck again, hitting a 3 off a pass from Corinthian Ramsey and dishing off a fast-break assist to Jaraan Lands for a layup and five-point lead.

Freshman Preson Enloe hit two key 3-pointers to keep Tarleton in front,, the first opening up a 70-63 lead, and the second silencing the Buffs’ comeback attempt by pushing it to 75-70 with 1:40 to go. Jordan Evans missed a 3 at the other end, and Josh Hawley slammed one down for a seven-point margin with 71 ticks left on the clock.

A layup by Riddick, a free throw by Lands and two foul shots by Ramsey finished off the signature road win, Tarleton’s first this season against a ranked opponent.

The Texans hit 57.4 percent from the floor and a 54.5 percent from 3, their beset from long range since knocking down 60 percent (12-20) against Simon Fraser on December 18, 2016 in Las Vegas.

At the same time, the Buffs, known for their high-scores and 3-point shooting were just 10-37 from long range, with All-American David Chavlovich hitting just 1-8 from deep as part of a 4-13 shooting night.;

The shot percentages told the story as Tarleton scored more than 74 points against an NCAA Division II opponent for the first time since beating Western New Mexico 85-59 on December 7.  The Buffaloes, who had just nine turnovers and out-rebounded Tarleton 40-32, scored less than 80 for only the third time this season, and it’s the first time they have scored less than 80 and lost.
