Two school records go down as Tarleton opens indoor track season

LUBBOCK— Tarleton track & field teams got off to a great start as they opened the 2018 indoor season with two new school records and an NCAA provisional mark at the Red & Black Open in Lubbock.

Dalton Stidham set a new school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.13 (NCAA provisional mark). The junior hurdler from Boyd finished fourth-place, surpassing his own mark of 8.17 set in 2017. Jamel Anderson also set a new school record in the 60-meter dash (6.97), finishing seventh at the meet. The sophomore sprinter from Round Rock broke Cornelius Blair‘s (6.99) record set in 2016.

The Texans finished the night with 13 top-8 finishes at the Red & Black Open. Johen Deleon had the top finish on the day for Tarleton as he placed second in the 3000-meter run with a new career best time of 8:36.84. Justin Botelloplaced fifth in the same race with a time of 8:51.63, followed by Jarred Elizondo (8:56.36) finishing sixth. Botello also placed fourth in the mile run (4:18.86), while Quenten Lassester (4:22.00) and DeLeon (4:23.24) finished sixth and seventh.

Charles Smith tossed the shot put 42′ 1.25″ finishing sixth in his field event, Rascellis Williams and Kelvin White both cleared (6′ 3.50″) in the high jump earning a seventh and eighth place finish. Brandon Reasoner ran the 800-meter run in a time of 1:58.04 and placed eighth at his first collegiate meet. Colton Troutman had the best finish for Tarleton in the 400-meter dash (49.84) and finished eighth in the race.

On the women’s side, Jasmine McQuirter had the top finish for the TexAnns placing fifth in the long jump (18′ 05″).  Gretzel Jimenez ran a 5:18.62 mile at the meet and placed seventh, while Elena Reagan had a throw of 33′ 7.25″ (eighth place) in the women’s shot put in her college debut.

 

Tarleton will be back in Lubbock, Texas February 3, where they will be competing in the Texas Tech Open.
