Bostad, Hill named Tarleton Athletes of Month for January

STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Athletics has announced that McKinley Bostad and Jesse Hill are the January recipients of the ‘Tarleton Student-Athletes of the Month’ award.

The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete will show effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.

To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be nominated by their head coach or athletic administrator and maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or better. Only in-season athletes are eligible for the award each month.

Bostad, a junior guard from Kennedale for the TexAnn Basketball team, led the TexAnns to seven victories in eight games over the month of January. Bostad averaged 15.8 points per game and scored in double figures in every game of the month, highlighted by a 24-point

to lift Tarleton to its first road win over Texas Woman’s since 2012. She was named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week on January 8 for her efforts against Angelo State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. For the month, Bostad scored 126 points and averaged 3.8 rebounds to go along with 27 assists, 15 steals, and three blocks.

Hill, a junior forward from Waretown, New Jersey for the Texan Basketball team, helped Tarleton to five wins in eight games over the month of January. He played in every game and shot .484 from the floor for the month. He averaged 5.3 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game, including 11 in the Texans’ win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Once selected as student-athlete of the month, those recipients are eligible to be selected for Tarleton Student-Athlete of the Year award at the end of the season. The yearly award will be recognized at the student-athlete awards banquet in the spring.
