STEPHENVILLE (February 9, 2018) — While many college students will soon begin preparing for a summer of work, vacation and pool-side fun, one Tarleton State University Army ROTC cadet will ready for a summer internship in Stuttgart, Germany, with the United States European Military Command.
Cadet Luis Zamora, a junior majoring in criminal justice from Killeen, Texas, is one of only 19 cadets from the ROTC Cadet Command’s 5th Brigade chosen to work and study in Germany this summer—an internship program that is considered the most competitive of all cadet summer training programs.
“This internship develops the next generation of military leaders through a dynamic program that immerses cadets in the Joint and Strategic environment of a forward deployed Combatant Command,” said Lt. Col. Marty Deckard, professor of military science at Tarleton. “This environment provides cadets the chance for real-world interaction with high-ranking staff in the career fields they will pursue after graduating from their commissioning programs.
“Cadets have broad opportunities across the command’s joint staff in a variety of disciplines and are placed according to the needs of the command,” he said.
The Cadet Command’s 5th Brigade, headquartered at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, is responsible for Army ROTC programs in Wyoming, Utah, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas. Cadet Command is comprised of eight brigades across the United States, with each organization effectively manned by specially selected and qualified professional cadre, staff and faculty.
