STEPHENVILLE (February 17, 2018) — Chris Reisman is rated among the top assistant basketball coaches in the nation, by CoachStat.net. CoachStat.net.

The website CoachStat.net, followed by coaches and intimate followers of multiple levels of college basketball, ranks Reisman 17th nationally among NCAA Division II assistant coaches. He is the son of 30-year Tarleton head coach Lonn Reisman, who became the fifth active NCAA Division II coach to reach 650 career wins (at Tarleton) with a 66-59 victory at Angelo State last Saturday, February 10.

Chris Reisman is actually titled associate head coach at Tarleton State University, where he played, served as a graduate assistant and then was full-time assistant. He is one of only two Lone Star Conference assistant coaches to make the list.

“As far as I’m concerned he’s the number one assistant coach in the nation. He has been a major factor in the growth and development of our program since he came here as a player over 20 years ago now,’ said Lonn Reisman. “Chris has such a great mind for basketball and the modern concepts of basketball, and he has turned down many jobs because of his loyalty to the purple and the white. He’s a big reason this program is where it is today.”

Chris came to Tarleton as a player in 1997 after graduating from Stephenville High School. He helped the Texans to a 66-42 record from 1997-98 through 2000-01, third through sixth years in NCAA Division II.

As soon as Chris moved into the coaching ranks, Tarleton began soaring, going 25-8 his first year as an assistant in 2001-02, the first season the Texans were invited to the NCAA Division II Championship Tournament.

The Division II event begins with eight regional tournaments, and Tarleton hosted its first South Central  Region Championship as the No. 1 seed in the region in 2002-03. The Texans have since hosted the event in 2004, 2008 and 2015, winning the third of their four regional titles and their first at Wisdom Gym in 2015.

Tarleton also won regional titles in 2005, 2006 and 2016, four straight Lone Star Conference North Division championships from 2002-03 through 2005-06, LSC South Division crowns in 2001-02, 2008-09, and 2010-11, unified league-wide LSC titles in 20011-12, 2013-14 and 2014-15 and LSC tournament championships in 2004, 2013 and 2014.

Chris Reisman was assistant coach through 2005-06, five years, with a record of 134-42. He has been associate head coach the past 12 seasons including this one, going 277-90. His 400th win as assistant coach or associate head coach came this season December 7, 2017, an 85-59 home rout of Western New Mexico. His current overall coaching record is 411-122.

“Chris’ biggest strengths are time management, layer development, game preparation and recruiting,” said Lonn Reisman. ”

The Texans are currently ranked ninth in the South Central Region and are third in the Lone Star Conference. With the top two teams in the LSC and the region – West Texas A&M and UT-Permian Basin – coming to Stephenville next week followed by the LSC Championship tourney in Frisco the following weekend, Tarleton no doubt holds its national playoff destiny in its own hands.

The Texans have non-conference contest at 4 p.m. today against Northern New Mexico. It does count as a regional game, one they can ill-afford to lose.

The game follows a 2 p.m. LSC meeting between the Tarleton State women and Texas Woman’s.
