Near triple-double by Ramsey paves way to easy win for Tarleton

STEPHENVILLE (February 17, 2018) — Corinthian Ramsey had a near-historic performance Saturday and Tarleton State (17-9) enjoyed an easy win in a one-game break from Lone Star Conference action.

Ramsey scored 16 points, dealt 16 assists and grabbed 8 rebounds as the Texans thumped Northern New Mexico 98-50 at Wisdom Gym. Ramsey had 13 points and 11 boards by halftime and also finished with four steals, all while playing only 26 minutes.

Tarleton led 55-16 at halftime and went on to improve its regional record 13-9. Things will get much tougher when LSC play resumes next week for the Texans. They host UT-Permian Basin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and West Texas A&M at 4 p.m. Saturday, giving the Texans an opportunity against the top two teams in both the LSC and South Central Region to improve on their No. 9 ranking in the first regional poll released this week.

Josh Hawley also filled the stat sheet with 16 points on 7-10 shooting along 5 steals, 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots. Preston Enloe was 5-6 from the floor and scored 15, Sam Marshall was 4-6 with 12 and Claishon Gaffney scored 9 points and blocked 4 shots.

Tarleton shot a blistering 62.5 percent frm the floor including 57.1 percent from outside the arc. They also made 75 percent of their free throw attempts while collecting 8 assists and turning it over just 10 times.

Reserves off the Texan bench made the most of their unusually high minutes, scoring 41 points.

Northern New Mexico shot only 31.1 percent and was led by Braxton Bouyer with 15 poiints and Ezini Ugbisien with 11.
