STEPHENVILLE (February 20, 2018) — Tarleton State University Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Gallery hosts Em (Body) ment, an exhibition featuring the works of three highly-regarded sculptors, Feb. 29 – March 23.

The gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Admission is free.

Highlighting the work of Mia Cinelli, Tabatha Trolli and Lauren Frances Evan, the exhibition explores “objecthood and the body.” Using artifacts that blur the line between inner and outer, material and corporeal, function and dysfunction, the collection of objects presents a compelling way to think about how the materials we use reinforce identity, with our bodies as mediums for enactment.

Cinelli is an assistant professor of art studio and digital design at the University of Kentucky. She has exhibited internationally during Salone Satellite at the Milan International Furniture Fair as a part of Milan Design Week, as well as at the Port Moody Art Center in conjunction with the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In 2016, she was selected to present a TED talk titled “A New Type of Superpower” on typography. One of her recent pieces, a therapeutic weighted blanket designed to help the grieving, was featured on Design Milk, Fast CompanyDezeenDaily Mail and People magazine. She is passionate about visual communication, human-centered design and education.

Evans currently lives and works in Iowa City, Iowa. She is originally from Atlanta, completed her undergraduate studies in Charleston, S.C., and received her MFA from the University of Maryland. For the past three years, she has served as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Iowa and is currently teaching at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa.

She has participated in residencies at Franconia Sculpture Park, Elsewhere Living Museum and the Vermont Studio Center. She was awarded the International Sculpture Center’s 2014 Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award and was a recent recipient of an Artist Project Grant from the Iowa Arts Council.

Trolli is an accomplished ceramicist and sculptor living and working in Denton. Her work explores the connections between the physical body and the sculptural object. She received her MFA from the University of North Texas, with a concentration in ceramics. Troll currently teaches at Southern Methodist University, Cedar Valley College and the University of North Texas. Recent exhibitions include both a two-person and solo show at 500x Gallery in Dallas.
