STEPHENVILLE (March 6, 2018) — Stephenville fought off a couple Brownwood chances and got on the board itself for a 1-0 lead at intermission. Then after a couple adjustments during the break, the Yellow Jackets returned to the pitch equipped with wood burning torches for the second half.

Four more goals in the final 40 minutes at Lem Brock Field made it a  5-0 rout of the Lions, with Ivan Cabrera earning a two-goal brace while Kevin Martinez, JJ Saldana and Isidro Manzano added a goal apiece.

Each of the four members of District 4-4A are two-thirds through the league schedule with one contest against each disrict rival remaining.

Wylie remains alone in first in 4-4A because the Bulldogs have swept Mineral Wells (4-2), including a 1-0 win last night in Abilene. Mineral Wells swept Stephenville (3-3), which upset Wylie last week, winning 6-5 on PKs after a 3-3 draw. That split keeps the Jackets one match behind the Rams for second. Brownwood has not won a district match.

The third loop through the district begins Friday when Mineral Wells returns to Lem Brock Field Friday for a 7 p.m. start. An idle week lies ahead in observance of spring break, then Stephenville completes 4-4A action at Wylie on Tuesday, March 20, and back home against Brownwood again on Friday, March 23.
