Mid-1990s Texan offensive linemen back second time as assistant coach

Scott Carey played for Todd Whitten, and now he will be coaching for him.

The past Texan player is returning to the staff as offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator, a title he shares with running backs coach Jonathan Beasley. Whitten, however, has always called offensive plays as a head coach and has given no indication that will change.

Carey has begun his second stint as an assistant coach at Tarleton, where he played four years in the mid-1990s. He made two coaching stops beore returning to Tarleton in in 2006. He coached four seasons before heading to Colorad School of Mines a second time in 2010. He stayed three seasons ther and three at Abilene Christian University and in 2017 was on staff a McGregor High School.

Carey’s wife Danielle, was a graduate assistant for the TexAnn basketball team in 2008-09 while earning her master’s degree.

CAREY ON CACHING FOR WHITTEN AT TARLETON:
“It’s a blessing (to come back to Tarleton). When I got the phone call from Coach (Todd) Whitten and was given the opportunity to come back, it was like a dream come true. This is where I played, it’s my home and it’s where I met my wife. There are just so many factors that go into getting to come home (to Tarleton) and I’m very excited.”

WHITTEN ON HIRING CAREY:
“I am extremely excited to have Coach (Scott) Carey return to Tarleton. He played for me back in 1996 and I have real fond memories of him. He was a very hard worker and a great leader. He’s a guy that loves Tarleton. I couldn’t be more pleased to have him back here.”

-Graduate Assisatnt: Northeastern State Uni­ersity 1998-2000 (2000 Lone Star Conference Champions)
-Offensive line coach, Colorado Schoool of Mines, 2001-05­­­­­: In 2005, Orediggers led nation in passing offense, was No. 2 in total offense, No. 6 in scoring offense. Carey coached Travis Yenne, an All-America selection in 2004 and 2005 and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Lineman of the Year in 2005.­­
-Offensive line coach, Tarleton: 2006-2010: Texans were 2009 LSC co-champons and won an NCAA Division II playoff contest for second time in shcool history, beating Texas A&M-Kingsville 57-56 in double overtime. Tarleton was also co-champion of hte LSC South Division in 2006.
