(March 12, 2018) — Julia Flores mowed down Glen Rose batters and lit up Lady Tigers pitching Friday, allowing just one run while striking out nine in the circle and driving in four runs from the dish in a 10-1 Stephenville win.

Stephenville (12-8-1, 2-0) broke from district play with two losses on Saturday, 10-5 to 2A superpower Albany and 5-4 to 5A Abilene Cooper.

Flores drove in runs with a double in the second inning and singles in the fourth and sixth. When she wasn’t badgering her Glen Rose counterpart she was striking out her teammates as the East Texas Baptis State pledge recorded nine strikeouts while yielding just three hits and one walk.

Stephenville began to run away with four runs crossing the plate in the fourth. Morgan DiCiccio, Kristen Pettit and Jettie Funderburgh also had multiple RBIs for the Honeybees, who when Venus visits McCleskey Field at 7 a.m.

Stephenville committed seven errors and let Albany get away with four runs in the fourth, thanks primarily to a handful of their seven total errors. Nine of the runs were unearned, not that Flores didn’t have to battle with nine Albany hits and four walks, but she also recorded 10 strikeouts.

Cooper used a four-run third inning to overcome a 3-run Stephenville second and chse Bianka Garcia out of the circle. Flores took over and went the rest of the way, allowing four hits, striking out three and walking two. She also had the only two RBI for Stephenville, which had just four total hits.
