(AUGUST 29, 1928 ~ MARCH 14, 2018)

Adelaide Louise Teichmann was born in the Lake Creek community in Palo Pinto County, Texas August 29, 1928. She died March 14, 2018 in San Angelo, Texas. In between those dates, she lived quite the life.

Funeral will be at her home church of St. Mary’s Catholic Church between Stephenville and Dublin Tuesday at 10 AM. Burial following alongside JT at nearby Gardens of Memory. Visitation at Lacy Funeral Home in Stephenville Monday, March 19, 4-6 PM; rosary immediately following at 6 PM.

Raised at the German farming and ranching community of Dodson Prairie in Palo Pinto County, German was her native tongue until the 2nd grade. She went off to Dallas to work during “the war,” also knowing all the local men were relatives and she’d have to go away to ever find a husband. Back at “the Prairie” for a community dance at “the schoolhouse,” she met and later married a handsome sailor just home from WWII who was the guest of one of those many relatives. She became Mrs. James Thomas Hammond in 1948 and they moved to Stephenville to farm. Linda, Greg and Charles grew the family, but the drought of the 50s was unkind. JT borrowed $20 and moved to Big Lake to stay with relatives and find work in the oil patch.

When work was found, Addie and the kids followed and soon began a life with El Paso Natural Gas and frequent moves up and down the pipeline as JT was promoted. Texon, Midland (Midkiff), Benson (Arizona), No. 2 near Sierra Blanca, Keystone Field near Kermit, and Guadalupe Station at the foot of the Guadalupe Mountains became home for a time. They retired at Guadalupe and moved back to Stephenville. There they set up home in an old family house they had completely remodeled and started a successful crafts business – JT built and Addie painted. The family grew as children married and grandkids came along. There they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, but eventually, some years following JT’s death, Adelaide moved to San Angelo where she lived her remaining years.

Parents Charles Teichmann and Josephine (Popp) Teichmann and brother Herman preceded her in death. She is survived by Linda and Roger Ellison, Greg Hammond and Charles Hammond as well as sister Rita Spotts and their families. To the grandkids – Jason, Mark, Jeff, Stephen, Katy and Meghan, and the great-grandchildren Emily, Nathan, Jack, Emma and Abby –  she was Meemaw. To other family she was Aunt Adelaide. To everyone, she was a sweet person, wonderful cook, fun to be around, and a delight to visit. Her faith-filled her with compassion and guided a strong sense of right and wrong. Addie’s life was not without difficulty, but it was a full and rich blessing.
