TEPHENVILLE – Tarleton sophomore Mackenzie Hailey was voted as one of the top 12 women’s basketball players in the South Central Region by the Division II Conference Commissioner’s Association.

“This is a great honor for an outstanding young lady,” said Misty Wilson. “Mack has grown so much as a player and a person during her two seasons and there is no doubt in my mind that the best is yet to come for her.”

Hailey was a star for the TexAnns in her second season at Tarleton as the sophomore, who was granted her sophomore season again with a medical redshirt, led the TexAnns to their eighth NCAA regional tournament appearance and second straight appearance in the Lone Star Conference Tournament championship game. Due to an injury suffered in the LSC title game, however, Hailey was unable to compete in the regional tournament.

She averaged 14.5 points and grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game in 31 games for Tarleton this season. For the year, Hailey scored 448 points, grabbed 222 rebounds, and shot .446 from the field on 157-of-352 shooting.

Hailey was named an All-Lone Star Conference first team and an All-LSC defensive team selection. She also won two LSC Defensive Player of the Week awards. This is her second career regional award after earning second team honors last season as well.
