(March 17, 2018) — Hailey Martin and Bailey McBee combined to place nine times and score 41 points in the PK Relays in Graham Friday and Saturday, pacing Stephenville to second place overall.

Martin scored 21 points and Mc:Bee 20, the bulk of that while competing with or against one another. McBee was third and Martin fourth in the 100 meter hurdles, and the long jump and they ran together on the  4×100 and 4×200 meter relays. Martin inched back ahead of her teammate when she added eight points with a second-place effort in the triple jump.

The Honeybees showed off their depth with two of the top six finishers in six separate events. All three relays earned points, combining for 30. Amber Walker led off all three while Kristen Pettit anchored two of them. Martin, McBee, Kali-Blake Bramlett and Payton Wall mixed up the remaining spots.

Payton and little sister Presley Wall each placed in two events. Payton was fourth in 300 hurdles and part of the third-place 4×400 team. Presley finished fourth in both the 1,600 and 3,200 meter runs. The sisters, a senior and a freshman, combined for 17 points.

The Achilles’ heel for the Honeybees is not having a replacement for the points current Tarleton sprinter Kylee Ponder once added in the 100 and 200 meter dashes. Stephenville did not score a single point in the 100, 200 or 400 Saturday.

They made up some of that with double-digit scoring in 100 hurdles (10) and the high jump. Jordan Carter is accustomed to winning the high jump and did so at 5-2. Allie Decker wasn’t far back, clearing 5-0 for third and making it a 16-point event for the Bees, matching the second place 4×100 relay as their highest scoring event at the meet.

Stephenville competes next in the Tiger Relays in Glen Rose Thursday and follows that one week later with the annual Optimist Relays at Lem Brock Field. The District 8-4A meet at Midlothian Heritage is Wednesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 5.
