Tarleton teams place third in Cactus Cup

KINGSVILLE (March 17, 2018)—Tarleton track & field wrapped up its debut outdoor meet with four first-place finishes and an NCAA provisional mark.

The Texans (129 points) and TexAnns (117 points) both finished third at the annual Cactus Cup hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Dalton Stidham earned a gold medal in the 110-meter hurdles and surpassed the NCAA provisional mark with a time of 14.23. Michael Simcho placed first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:59.53. Johen Deleon wrapped up the first-place finishes for the Texans in the 800-meter run when he clocked a 1:56.21.

Brandon Reasoner (1:56.25), and Simcho (1:56.92) saw a second and third-place finish in the 800-meter run. Jarred Elizondo finished two spots behind Simcho in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:01.54 to secure a bronze medal.

Anterius Brown ran a time of 49.28 in the 400-meter dash and finished second at the meet. Brown also helped lead the 4×400-meter relay (Blake Eschbach, Colton Troutman, Jevon Wallace) to a second-place finish with a time of 3:17.83.

Eschbach rounded out the top-three finishes on the day for the men, the senior earned a bronze medal in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 55.87.

On the women’s side, Kara Bickham had the top-finish on the day with a time of 1:06.22 in the 400-meter hurdles. Jasmine McQuirter racked up a couple silver medals in the 100-meter dash (12.32) and the long jump (18′ 3.75″). Robbie Clarke also finished second-place on the day with a time of 16.47 in the 100-meter hurdles.

In the 1500-meter run the TexAnns had two of the top-three finishers, Gretzel Jimenez (4:56.11) and Imani Williams (4:57.53) finished second and third-place. Jimenez finished third in the 800-meter run (2:23.34), and also contributed to the bronze medal in the 4×400-meter relay (Bickham, Kylee Ponder, Andelynn Carlton) finished in 4:13.76.

Tarleton will compete in the Wes Kittley Invitational on Friday March 23 through Saturday March 24 in Abilene.
