The number five just seemed to have a ring to it Monday evening for the Stephenville Honeybee softball team as Skye Gaitan led the offense with five RBIs, starting pitcher Julia Flores notched five strikeouts and relief pitcher Bianka Garcia matched Flores with five Ks of her own.

It all added up to a 15-0 run-ruled road romp over Life Waxahachie.

There’s always a little worry when a team’s schedule gets moved around for things like impending bad weather, but other than not scoring a first-inning run the Honeybee’s contest went off without a hitch.

Being off schedule didn’t matter much as Waxahachie was unable to muster any offense against Flores as she pitched two innings, allowing no runs, one hit, five strikeouts and didn’t issue a single walk.

Flores left the mound with a 6-0 lead and Garcia didn’t make it any easier on opposing batters as she matched Flores’ strikeout total

Gaitan only got two plate appearances due to only four innings of gameplay and she made the most of her opportunities with a double in the second inning and a triple in the third.

The Honeybees had plenty of firepower from all across their roster with Jessica Ebeling, Gaitan, Kristen Pettit and Madison Gilder all collecting RBIs in a six-run third inning. Morgan DiCiccio kept the Waxahachie defense guessing and on their toes with three stolen bases for Stephenville.

Stephenville fans will have to cool their heels for a few days before seeing the Honeybees in action again when they play host to Glen Rose Tuesday, April 3 at 7 p.m. at McCleskey Field.
