STEPHENVILLE – After throwing his first career complete-game shutout last weekend and holding #14 Texas A&M Kingsville to a .091 batting average Tarleton State’s Evan Pontley has been named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week.

Pontley was spectacular for the Texans last weekend as the senior pitcher fired his first shutout to lift Tarleton over Kingsville 2-0 in game three of the series.

The senior right-hander was in complete control from the get-go as he allowed only two hits and two walks for the entire game. He carried a one-hitter into the seventh before a weakly hit infield single provided the only other hit for the Javelinas, but Pontley sat down the next three hitters in order to finish off the shutout. He struck out four and held Kingsville to a .091 batting average.

Pontley and the Texans will head to Angelo State next weekend for an altered four-game series against the Rams. The series will be a 1-2-1 format beginning on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. There will be a Friday night doubleheader at 4 p.m. and the series closes out Saturday at 1 p.m.
