Stephenville’s varsity soccer teams are headed to Graham Thursday to take on playoff opponent Burkburnett where they will be facing teams they have already defeated once this season.

Beating a team can bring both confidence and a sense of wariness, because nothing gives you an up close of an opponent like being on the field with them for 90 minutes.

The Honeybees

Stephenville as the reigning state champion is currently ranked 9th in Class 4A (Texas Coaches Poll) and boasts a 20-3 record. Included among those wins is a 10-0 bombing of the Lady Bulldogs.

The Honeybees dropped a 2-2 game against Brownwood in a shoot-out loss in their final district game. It was only blemish on their district slate.

Thursday’s playoff game will be contested at 4 PM at Graham High School

The Yellow Jackets

The Jackets have also played against Burkburnett this season, but it was a much tighter game where Stephenville managed to squeeze out a 1-0 nothing win. What makes the Bulldogs scary is they are kind of streaky and example being their games against Hirschi where they won 2-0 before dropping a 5-1 contest.

Both the Jackets and Bulldogs have had up and down games against common opponents, but Stephenville has managed to pump out a 6-3 district record and overall at 18-7.

The Jackets game is set for an 8 PM start.
