SAN ANGELO – After Angelo State forced a rubber game with a win to open Friday’s doubleheader, No. 20 Tarleton scored two runs in the sixth inning to back a complete-game win from Jordan Withrow to take the series from the No. 4 Rambelles.

“Our girls showed good toughness this weekend to earn a great series win against a very good team,” said head coach Mark Cumpian. “Angelo State has been one of the best teams in the nation over the past two years and were national runners up a year ago, so this weekend showed the potential that this team has. I’m excited to see what we can accomplish as they continue to improve. It was a great weekend for the TexAnns.”

This is the second straight season that Tarleton has won the regular season series against the Rambelles.
Game 1: No. 4 Angelo State 8, Tarleton 0 (6)

Tarleton suffered an 8-0 loss in a two-hit effort in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader as the Rambelles forced a rubber game in the series.

The TexAnns got a single from Meghann Wrinkle in the fourth and a single from Georgia Capell in the sixth for their only offense of the game. Meanwhile, Angelo scored one in the first, fourth, and fifth to go along with two in the second and three in the sixth to earn the win.
Game 2: No. 20 Tarleton 2, No. 4 Angelo State 1

Georgia Capell and Meghann Wrinkle drove in back-to-back RBI in the sixth inning for the tying and game-winning runs while Jordan Withrow dealt her 18th win of the season to give the TexAnns the series.

Withrow stood toe-to-toe against Angelo’s Brandy Marlett, who fell to 15-2 on the season with the loss, and outdueled the defending LSC Pitcher of the Year with seven innings of three-hit ball, allowing only one run on three hits and three walks while striking out nine.

Angelo struck first with a solo home run in the fourth, but Tarleton answered two innings later when Elizabeth Svienty led off the inning with a single. After Maddie Quintanar moved her into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, Capell drove Svienty in to tie the game with an RBI double.

Capell took third on an error and then came across to score the go-ahead run on an RBI single from Wrinkle. The Rambelles had one baserunner in each of the last two innings, but Withrow danced out of danger each time.

Wrinkle led the offense with two hits while Capell, Marisa Flores, and Svienty had one hit each.

Tarleton will return home Tuesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader against Texas A&M International before returning to Lone Star Conference play next weekend in Stephenville against Texas Woman’s.
