(April 3, 2018) – Stephenville’s Honeybee soccer team takes another step toward a back-to-back state title today against Lubbock Estacado in a 5:30 p.m. match at Abilene Wylie’s Bulldog Stadium.

The Honeybees (21-3) face another opponent that they don’t know much about, but that’s a common theme when it comes to playoff action. They are taking the same approach when it comes to their area round opponent.

“We just need to get out there and run our offensive game,” Coach Casey Weil said. “Defensively we make our adjustments on the fly.”

When it comes to offense the Honeybees believe in going at 100 mph and that’s in practice or in a game. Stephenville ran practice at full speed yesterday and the Honeybees play like they practice.

“That’s one great thing about coaching this team,” Weil said. “They motivate themselves and challenge each other all the time. They come out to practice ready to get to business and they carry that right into their games.”

Burkburnett found that out the hard way in bi-district action.

Stephenville jumped out to a 6-0 first-half lead in the bi-district playoff before completing a 9-0 shutout that saw every Honeybee on the roster take the field. The score could have been a lot more lopsided, but Weil called off the stinging in favor of getting his younger players some experience.

Ciara Johnson provided a big part of Stephenville’s firepower with three goals while Gracie Bales added two more. The Honeybees also got goals from Haleigh Beam (unassisted corner kick), Clair Choate, Tanja Pederson (unassisted) and Alexis De Los Santos.

Emily Kirbo and Beam also contributed a pair of assists each. Stephenville also got assists from Bailie Atchley, Cody Hawks and Madelyn Heupel.
