STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton Athletics has announced that Blake Adams and Alicia Barbaroux are the April recipients of the ‘Tarleton Student-Athletes of the Month’ award.
The student-athlete of the month is selected based on the all-around student-athlete for one male and one female. The student-athlete will show effort and excellence in academics, leadership, civility, dedication to the team, campus involvement, community service, and the ability to serve as role models for current and future Tarleton State University students and student-athletes.
To be eligible for the award, the student-athlete must be nominated by their head coach or athletic administrator and maintain a grade point average of 2.75 or better. Only in-season athletes are eligible for the award each month.
Adams, a senior outfielder from Longview, has been a leader for the Texan Baseball team all season and has led Tarleton to a 10-2 record so far in the month of April. With Adams leading the way, Tarleton swept back-to-back series against UT Permian Basin and Eastern New Mexico and split a crucial series against No. 6 West Texas A&M in a battle of the league’s top teams. In the month of April, Adams is hitting .462 in 12 games with 18 runs scored, six home runs, and 13 RBI – all of which lead the team. He also stole four bases and worked a flawless left field with 16 putouts.
Barbaroux, a sophomore tennis standout from Marseille, France, had an impressive run over the final month of the season as the No. 1 tennis player in the Tarleton lineup. She was a perfect 6-0 in singles throughout the month of April, including three upsets of national-ranked opponents. Barbaroux knocked off No. 27 Maddy Coffman of Midwestern State to begin the month then defeated No. 62 Ena Ovcina of Angelo State and No. 23 Zhenia Shviadok of Cameron. Her victory over Ovcina was a 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 thriller to clinch a road victory over No. 36 Angelo State. She also went 4-3 in doubles for the month.
Once selected as student-athlete of the month, those recipients are eligible to be selected for Tarleton Student-Athlete of the Year award at the end of the season. The yearly award will be recognized at the beginning of the following fall semester.
