No. 15 TexAnns return home to close out regular season on ‘Senior Weekend’ against Falcons

THE GAMES
The No. 15 TexAnns will be in Stephenville for the final time in their record-setting 2018 season this weekend as Tarleton plays host to UT Permian Basin in a three-game series. The teams begin with a 6 p.m. single game Friday night and will wrap up the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

SENIOR WEEKEND
Tarleton will recognize its seven seniors following the final game of the series on Saturday afternoon. The seniors being recognized are Nyka Wood, Haley Freyman, Kaitlyn Thomas, Marisa Flores, Meghann Wrinkle, Megan Durante, and Megan Rosewell.

WHAT’S AT STAKE
Tarleton is currently tied for third place in the Lone Star Conference standings and is No. 4 in the South Central region poll. The TexAnns are guaranteed a place in the LSC postseason tournament and are vying for position within their respective postseason appearances.

A LOOK AT LAST TIME OUT
Tarleton swept a three-game series on the road at Midwestern State. Megan Durante was a catalyst for the TexAnn offense in a road sweep of Midwestern State last weekend. The senior first baseman hit .600 with two doubles, two home runs, five runs scored, and four RBI. Megan Rosewell was fantastic in the circle for Tarleton as she went 2-0 in 11.0 innings of work, including 4.0 out of the bullpen on Sunday to help lead the TexAnns to a comeback win over the Mustangs to complete the sweep.

TEXANNS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
The TexAnns jumped two spots in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association to No. 15 in the latest rankings. For Tarleton, it’s the ninth week in school history that the TexAnns have been a national top 20 team. Tarleton continues its record streak of weeks in the top 20 at five straight.

MILESTONE WATCH: NYKA WOOD
Nyka Wood, who is already the school’s all-time leader in RBI, doubles, and games played, is currently closing in on the following school records:

• Hits – Wood is 17 hits shy of passing Melody Mayse (260) for the all-time hits record
• Total Bases – Wood is 22 total bases shy of passing Arianna Rodriguez (388) for the most total bases in program history.

MILESTONE WATCH: JORDAN WITHROW
Jordan Withrow is currently enjoying a stellar sophomore season and broke the single-season record for strikeouts in a season with 199 and became the first player in school history to strike out 200 in a season. Withrow is closing in on another single-season school records:

• Wins – Withrow is three wins away from passing Brooke Saulters (24; 2007) for the most wins by a Tarleton pitcher in a single season.

MILESTONE WATCH: Georgia Capell
Georgia Capell is enjoying one of the all-time greatest freshman seasons in the history of TexAnn Softball. The newcomer from Midlothian is currently closing in on the following single-season record:

• Home Runs – Capell is three home runs away from passing Arianna Rodriguez (18; 2012) for the most home runs in a year.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Tarleton and UT Permian Basin have met 14 times since the all-time series began in 2010 and the TexAnns have won all of them. Tarleton is 14-0 in the all-time series, including a 4-0 mark in Stephenville. It’s the first series in Stephenville between the TexAnns and Falcons since 2015.
