LAWTON, Okla. – Tarleton rode the wave of a two-out, second-inning rally to a 10-6 victory in the series opener at McCord Field against Cameron Friday night.

Each team struck for first-inning runs with Tarleton plating a pair on a two-RBI single from Jared McCarver in the top of the first before the Aggies cut the lead in half with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the inning. Tarleton’s Conner Fletcher got a fly ball to center to end the threat in and take things into the second.

Tarleton started the second inning with two outs on two pitches before Blake Adams extended the inning by reaching on an error. The Cameron miscue proved incredibly costly as the Texans took advantage with six runs in the inning.

The first run of the six-run second inning came when Adams scored on a double and an error. After a walk and a hit by pitch, McCarver ripped a two-RBI double down the left-field line for his fourth RBI of the night. Then three straight RBI singles from Francisco Rodriguez, Jake Hasbrouck, and Tyler Fowler pushed the Tarleton lead out to 8-1 early.

That lead carried to the sixth inning when Cameron scored one in the sixth and four in the seventh to turn the game around at 8-6, but Tarleton had an answer in the next half-inning when Ruben Rodriguez and Luke Morton reached and Francisco Rodriguez drove them home with a two-RBI double down the left-field line to extend the lead back to four at 10-6.

Cameron threatened in the bottom of the eighth, but Connor Flanagan stranded two on base by striking out the final two outs of the inning. Eddie Avila got two strikeouts and worked around two baserunners in the ninth to close the door. Flanagan and Avila got the final eight outs of the game after Fletcher threw the first six innings and Chris Reed got one out in relief. Fletcher earned the win while striking out seven.

Offensively, Elvin Alamo led the way with a three-hit game while McCarver, Francisco, and Fowler had two hits each. Blake Adams and Hasbrouck had one hit each to round out the offense. McCarver and Francisco combined for seven RBI in the game.

Tarleton and Cameron will hit the field under the lights tonight with a 5:30 p.m. doubleheader at McCord Field in Lawton.
