LAWTON, Okla. – Tarleton finished out the regular season with a sweep of Cameron Sunday afternoon and guaranteed themselves at a top-two finish in the Lone Star Conference standings and a first-round bye in the LSC Championship Tournament.

Tarleton closed out the season with a 17-6 victory over the Aggies at McCord Field Sunday afternoon.

“The boys came out and did exactly what they needed to do this weekend,” said head coach Bryan Conger. “This group has been playing really good baseball in the toughest conference in this region and they deserve to start being recognized for it.”

Tarleton’s 33 wins in the regular season are third-most in program history since 2001 – all three of which have come in the Bryan Conger era.

After a scoreless first inning, Tarleton got its scoring started with an eight spot in the second and never looked back by scoring in every inning the rest of the way. The eight-run second inning started with Francisco Rodriguez and Dylan Lemons reaching ahead of an RBI double from Jake Hasbrouck. Tarleton took the lead on back-to-back RBI singles from Blake Adams and Elvin Alamo. Ruben Rodriguez cleared the bases with a double for a 6-0 lead before a wild pitch allowed Ruben to score and Hasbrouck finished what he started with another RBI double for the final run of the inning.

Cameron got four of their six runs in the first two innings before Sid Payan came out of the bullpen and shut the Aggies down with three scoreless innings of relief to earn his second win of the season.

Meanwhile, Tarleton scored one in the third on a wild pitch and two in the fourth on a bases-loaded error to extend the lead out to 11-4. Francisco Rodriguez went yard in the fifth for a 12-0 lead and Jared McCarver added a three-run home run in the sixth to keep the scoring alive.

Tarleton tacked on its final two runs in the seventh with an RBI double from Alamo and a sacrifice fly from Ruben Rodriguez. Cameron scored its final two in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough to keep the game going.

Seven different Texans boasted two-hit performances Sunday afternoon, including the first five hitters in the lineup – Adams, Alamo, Ruben, McCarver, and Francisco. Hasbrouck and Tyler Fowler also had two hits for the day while Lemons added one to round out the 15-hit effort.

Colby Fowler got the start and threw the first two innings while striking out four. He gave way to Payan, who struck out five in his three innings of work. Chris Reed and Zach Svensson pitched one inning of relief each to close things out.

Tarleton has a bye weekend next week and will finish the regular season at 33-15. The Texans are guaranteed one of the top two seeds in the LSC Tournament. The Texans are still in contention for the LSC title, which can be shared with three Angelo State victories or won outright with an Angelo State sweep next weekend against West Texas A&M. The new single-elimination Lone Star Conference Tournament will be held on May 10-12.
