STEPHENVILLE (May 2, 2018)– At the monthly Stephenville City Council meeting Tuesday night, the council approved the hiring of Jeff Sanford as new Stephenville Economic Development Authority executive director. SEDA recommended his hiring.
The city council also swore in First Baptist Church of Stephenville pastor Dr. Ken May as the Stephenville Police Department Chaplain.
Additionally, two citizens brought requests for waivers to the council. Carl Holland requested a waiver for the lien against his property, which the council approved.
Beau Mayo, who is developing property on Old Hico Road, also requested waivers for the parkland dedication fee (which totals around $26,000), the ordinance requiring Mayo to pay for a portion of the street, the ordinance requiring Mayo to install certain curbs and the ordinance requiring Mayo to build a sidewalk.
While the council unanimously voted to waive the sidewalk requirement, which followed the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendation, the other three votes were split four to two. Ultimately, the council voted to follow the Planning and Zoning Commission’s recommendations to deny Mayo’s first three requests.
The council also approved the city administrator’s contract with amendments after an executive session.
Other business included:
- approving a contract with Freese and Nichols, Inc. to complete a Spring Bouquet drainage study,
- approving contracts for the Garfield Ground Storage Tank Rehabilitation project
- and rescheduling the next meeting for June 12.
