STEPHENVILLE – Tarleton freshman Neetika Sud has been named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s South Central Region Rookie of the Year.
“Neetika had a solid freshman campaign in line two singles,” said head coach Lance Drake. “That’s a tough position to be in your first year but she was a consistent performer all year. I’m excited to see her recognized as one of the top players in the region.”
Sud just completed her first season of TexAnn Tennis and was an all-conference singles player after boasting a record of 13-5 as the No. 2 player in the lineup for head coach Lance Drake. Sud was 4-2 in conference play and 1-1 against nationally-ranked opponents. She ended the season with four wins in her last five matches, including a 6-3, 6-0 win over Maria Delgadillo of then-No. 36 Angelo State.
She also won 11 doubles matches for the year between two different partners. All her doubles’ wins were in the No. 2 match.
Sud is one of eight student-athletes from around the nation to earn a regional rookie honor. The national award winners will be announced Tuesday, May 8 at the NCAA Tennis Championships in Surprise, Ariz.
